For example, heading out of an old haunt in the mountains, my brother told his children that when they are old enough…they will be able to coast from the summit to the main road on their bicycles, like he once did. Well, there was this flash and the next thing I knew, my brother was stopping the vehicle. He jumped out and grabbed his six year old’s bicycle out of the trailer, jumped on it, and coasted. “What about us?” I asked. “I have never driven with a trailer.” No problem, he responded, the truck makes it easy. Basically, I was told to just drive. He was right. It was easy.

My niece and nephew were so excited. Their laughter and crazy shrieks of excitement were exhilirating. I kept expecting to find my brother on the side of the road waiting for us to pick him up…as there were a few hill climbs. Nope!

When I saw flashing lights, I grew worried. No need. It was just three sheriffs that had pulled over some guy in a random and remote spot…and they were waiting for a tow truck. I wondered what they thought when my 6 ft, 200(+) lb brother went by on his 6 yr old son’s bicycle.

Anyway, short story long…we all enjoyed his free spirit. I told his kids to check his teeth for bugs…as I am sure he was grinning the entire way down the mountain.

Lucky.

Divorce.  That is the change I speak of. Divorce led to other changes (moving several hundred miles) and a career change. All of the changes were complicated, emotional, and so stressful…but in the end divorce was the change I needed.

I am thankful for my family, my education, and my career. They made change possible. Oh, and the pug…he saved me, too.

Graveyards….finished. Nearly a year of this shift. Glad it was only “temporary.”
