Spam…and more spam…

And I am not talking about the canned stuff you can use to make sushi (as my college roommate did)…

Blog is being bombarded with spam. Why? I dunno. This is the type of thing that makes me wonder….why bother.

Dreaming….

What if…?

What if you could change your job…still make enough money to get by…but be much happier?

Since winning the lottery likely won’t  happen, why not consider something that maybe…just maybe…could happen?

An Ideal Lunch Salad by 101 Cookbooks

Spotted this salad by Heidi Swanson approximately 3 to 4 weeks ago. Purchased the ingredients about a week ago. Finally, it made the salad tonight for dinner. I was beginning to think it would never happen…

Delicious. Wow! I have never cooked with miso or brown rice vinegar and I had no idea what to expect. Rob was pleasantly suprised, too. He was wrinkling his nose and looking doubtful as I put it all together. Our side dish was roasted brussel sprouts with bacon. Fabulous. Lots of green in our meal…which beats the bright orange mac n’ cheese we ate (oh yes we did!) last night for dinner.

We will definitely have this salad again. Perhaps, miso deserves some more attention.

Going Through A Phase

If it has not been used lately, is name brand, looks like new (or is new) … watch out … I just might list it on eBay. All part of my plan to simplify. If I don’t think it is eBay-worthy (or it proves not to be eBay-worthy), it gets shipped off to Goodwill or the landfill. Unfortunate.

Here are just a few examples of items I have listed on eBay:

With regards to eBay, whoa…the learning curve has been steep. If it is not name brand, forget-about-it. Free-shipping helps if you want to unload it. Definitely be clear and spell out where you will and won’t ship to, how long the buyer has to pay before the item will be re-listed, and your policy on returns. Then, you have to factor in the Paypal variable of the equation. I will save that for another time.

Sounds crazy? Maybe a wee bit. One unforeseen and positive consequence, I am less apt to part with my money for an article of clothing or any other material good. I would rather not. I prefer not to be owned by material goods. They just aren’t worth it. Once procured, they must be stored…cleaned…moved. They may make you feel guilty. Then, you must part with them…because you just can’t store them any more. What a waste. Unfortunately, it seems as though this is a constant battle. I want to live by “Less is more” but sometimes I forget…or rather I drift back to being a miserable consumer.

Remember George Carlin and “Stuff?”

Change

Hmmm. Where to begin? Not sure…as I am not sure where the start is…

We were fortunate to attend a solar conference in San Diego this month. Interesting. Very interesting. Food for thought. There might be solar on this rooftop…soon.

Also fortunate to attend the American Pistachio Growers conference in San Diego this past weekend. What a fabulous weekend. Not only did we get to leave the Central Valley…on vacation…spend time with family…see sites in San Diego…but we learned quite a bit about pistachios. My new go-to snack. Pistachios are packed full of protein and more. There will be more posts on pistachios in the future.

Also, sharing this video trailer (below) from the newest ambassador/spokesperson for the American Pistachio Growers, Jeremy Jones. Woot!

One more from Jeremy Jones…and his crew:

Observations on life in February 2013

As I grow older, I pay less attention to what people say. I just watch what they do. – Andrew Carnegie

Ebay is dangerous…but fun. I have sold two items…and bought a few. There are several listed. Learning the moves…and how to get the last-minute winning bid.

One major move I made via eBay is swapping out my Pentax K-r for a metallic blue (!!!!) Pentax K-30. Can’t wait for it to arrive…can’t wait to use it. (Hence, no pics this post.)

I love roasted brussel sprouts…

Enjoying this blog and all the pics at the moment…takes my mind off work and my soon-to-be-ex-sister-in-law. Sometimes life is just not fair…right?

How To Survive

in a job you do not love.

I could be more specific…but I will leave it at that.

I have googled keywords in search of ideas and suggestions. I am looking for alternatives that are more affordable than going back to school and/or a professional therapist.

People tell me to be grateful that I have a job…hmmm.

At least my student loans (accumulated in the first-go-round) are paid off…but, that does not make it any easier. Fresh out of college, I was eager and willing to pay for a professional degree. Naive? Foolish? Now…I want BIG bang for my buck.

Just a few items I am looking for in my future job/career: satisfaction; less bureaucracy; results; fewer meetings; relationships (not “culture”) —> cut the crap.

Venting? YES, I am.

I predict that my profession is only going to “get worse” with Obamacare. If it would benefit the masses, I might put up with it…but, it will likely benefit no one.

2013

Not in to resolutions, but I have a few this year:

1) Take every opportunity to SIMPLIFY

2) MAKE the changes you know should be made

3) SLOW down and enjoy

Thankful (again!)

Thank you to Mom and Dad for a fabulous place to get away to…it just doesn’t get much better than that.

Thank you to Jeb for sharing his trailer, fuel, expertise…and getting us unstuck…over and over again. Jeb, we enjoyed your company, too…except for the snoring.

Thank you to Grandpa Don and Grandma Helen for introducing us to Beasore, sharing their cabin, their snowmobiles, and all of the good times

Thank you to Bob, Deb, and family for continuing the tradition…

Lastly, thank you to the person that outbid me on eBay for that Artic Cat vintage snowmobile helmet…phew!
